As the only fellowship-trained and board-certified upper extremity orthopedic surgeon in the area, Dr. Jonathan Shafer is an expert in surgery involving the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. Dr. Shafer specializes in upper extremity trauma, total shoulder and elbow replacement, reconstructive surgery of the hand and elbow, and arthroscopic surgery of the upper extremity.
Dr. Shafer graduated from Rice University in Houston, Texas, with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. After his undergraduate studies, he decided to further his education at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, where he earned his medical degree. He went on to The University of New Mexico for his orthopedic surgery residency in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Shafer was then awarded a surgical fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, where he focused on specialty training in upper extremity surgery.
When Dr. Shafer isn’t seeing patients, he enjoys photography, CrossFit, and running.
