In March of 2015, Skagit Northwest Orthopedics Physician Assistant Carlos Aguero traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to participate in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ (AAOS) annual playground build.

Carlos writes, “The AAOS sponsors a playground build every year at the Academy Meeting, and I wanted to help out. They bussed us out to the site at 7:30 a.m. and we all met — about 100 people. We each chose an area to volunteer in, and by 8:30 a.m. we started the playground assembly process. All the materials were on site, the area was marked out ahead of time, and holes were dug for the concrete supports.

Despite the intermittent rain, volunteers and community members came together to build a brand-new playground where children with and without disabilities can play safely together. The playground features components such as slides, swings, an accessible ramp, as well as a large, geometric jungle gym.
