David M. Mourning, MD

The following are reviews from patients of Dr. Mourning.

“If you have a broken hip, I can think of no where I would rather go since I had that experience with both. I found Dr. mourning not only to be a very good doctor who knows exactly what he is doing, but he seems very caring and was very clear on telling me what had gone on and what was going on during the mending time. I can’t thank him enough. I found his staff to very understanding, caring and reassuring. I am grateful for that. Thank you all”

“On my initial visit with Dr. Mourning he pointed out that lumbar fusion surgery was, really, my only option if I was to improve. I had experienced cervical fusion surgery 4 years earlier and suffered severe depression at that time and when I heard Dr. Mourning’s words my mind went to some other place. It wasn’t until my brother and my wife talked me down from there that I realized the doctor was telling me what my previous orthopedic surgeon in Memphis had told me 4 years ago. On my next visit I told Dr. Mourning about my previous depression and asked him specific questions about the procedure. Dr. Mourning was kind and caring and answered all of my questions and gave me specific preparations to make in anticipation of the surgery. All of the staff at Skagit Orthopedics have been helpful, caring and efficient. I felt like I was in good hands. I particularly liked the way the surgical teams, immediately before each of the two surgeries, introduced themselves, described what they would be doing and gave me the opportunity to ask questions. I have not experienced the depression that I experienced with my cervical fusion. Part of that, I believe, is due to speaking with Dr. Mourning and my family about it ahead of time. But part of it, I believe, is because I was not on IV pain meds like I was before, and the Physical Therapy team began their work almost immediately, which placed my focus on recovery and not on being helpless. My pain level is remarkably better than it has been for the last five years or more. And I can stand from a complete squatting position (something I haven’t been able to do for over 5 years!). I recently began physical therapy and I fully expect my condition to only get better, which is exactly the opposite of my outlook only four months ago! I had avoided lumbar fusion surgery for over four years because I was afraid. I now wish I would have done this much sooner. My quality of life could have been much better than it was. I have recommended Skagit Orthopedics to several of my friends and I will continue to do so. Thank you, Doctor Mourning, and thanks to the whole Skagit team.”

“My appointment was to check back after 1 month from having an injection on my lower back to see if it took away the severe nerve pain that I have. Dr Mourning listened to me while I described the pain that I continue to have. He went over options for me and explained to me that my best option would be to have him perform a fusion on my L5-S1 section. His nurse gave me a lab request form and told me what the pre-op procedures are. I was told that Sarah would contact me to schedule the surgery once she got the approval from the insurance agency. I felt like I had a pretty good understanding of what to expect moving forward.”

“I came in to get help figuring out why I have had constant neck pain for years. I’d already had an MRI, which Dr. Mourning helped interpret. He took some x-rays. I very much appreciate that he told me clearly that surgery was NOT going to benefit me. I’ve read that orthopedic surgeons sometimes recommend surgery that may or may not be necessary because it’s covered. He made some helpful suggestions. The visit was very efficient, not very long, but he was a great communicator and answered all my and my husband’s questions.”
